Alicia Keys and The-Dream were among a host of entertainers who picked up awards at the 22nd Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards in Beverly Hills.
Keys, at work on a follow up to 2007’s “As I Am”, received ASCAP’s coveted Golden Note Award.
Joining previous Golden Note winners Sean Diddy Combs and Quincy Jones, Keys was recognized for extraordinary career achievement at the Beverly Hilton.
Producer/recording star The-Dream and his production/songwriting partner Tricky Stewart picked up Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Awards. Recognized for their work on Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” and Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine,” The Dream and Stewart tied with Stargate (Ne-Yo, Jennifer Hudson).
Production/songwriting duo Stargate was recognized for work on five songs including Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight”.
Smokey Robinson, Lil Wayne, and James Fortune & FIYA were also recognized at the ceremony that featured performances from Ne-Yo, the GS Boyz, and Jeremih.
Robinson, receiving the Heritage Award, gave an acceptance speech after performances from Kelly Price and J Records artist CJ.
