A fan who also co-owns DC3 Forever was fortunate enough to meet Kelly Rowland backstage last night at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes. The fan has also shed some light on the 28-year-old’s new album. So far, she has reportedly worked with producers Rico Love, David Guetta, Jim Jonsin, Bryan Michael-Cox, Cory Bold, Oak, the Stereotypes, Swizz Beats, Jermaine Dupri, Brian Kennedy, Taio Cruz, The Outsyders, and Bangladesh. Jim Jonsin did two tracks for her but she only intends to keep one. Poor Taio Cruz gets no love because she’s not keeping any of his songs.
The project, which currently has the working title ‘Journey’ is scheduled for an April/May release. Kelly has so far recorded 25 songs but is only loving six tracks so far (not a good sign). The song that she recorded with rapper Nelly is almost a dead cert to make the album (judging by previous interviews). The musical direction spans across a mixture of uptempos, midtempos and ballads, without abandoning her R&B roots. The conceptual treatment is set to be an interesting one as she says it won’t be a “fella record”. In other words, and I’ll give my own example, we won’t have any songs like ‘Cater 2 U’ on the project. Hmmm…
