R. Kelly has had to postpone press appearance due to an unnamed medical issue. The R&B King was on his way to New York earlier today to promote his new album Write Me Back and memoir “SoulaCoaster: The Diary of Me” when he fell ill.
According to a statement from his publicist, the 45-year-old singer was forced to return to Chicago for medical treatment. “Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords,” said his rep.
As a result, he has had to cancel appearances on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and NBC’s “Today” as well as a book signing that was being held in his honor. It is unclear how long he will be out of commission.
Last summer, Kelly underwent emergency throat surgery to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils. He made a quick recovery, and has been fine ever since.
I just wanted to say that I am probably one of your biggest fans. I have tried to see every show you have done that I was able to attend. I was there at the Budweiser Fest when Aliyah was with you and she could not attend, but it was all good because I love you and your music. You have got to be one of my favorite singers in the whole wide world. I have been on hard times but I still think that you are the best singer to the females that I have ever heard. I hope that you get better and you can return to the stage again to bless the world with all your songs as before. I wil keep you in my pryers. Get well soon, we miss you.
