Late Monday night and all day Tuesday it seemed the internet was all ‘orange’ with the unexpected, premature release of Frank Ocean‘s Def Jam debut channel ORANGE. He took iTunes by storm within a day, and now early reports are expecting the singer-songwriter to make a major impact on the Billboard charts next week.
According to HITS Daily Double, the Odd Future crooner’s album is on track to open with 110-125,000 copies in its first week based on preliminary estimates.
These figures are impressive considering the album is only available as a digital exclusive on iTunes. Physical copies won’t hit shelves until July 17.
Frank made his television debut on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Monday performing his controversy causing song “Bad Religion,” where he announced that the project would go on sale immediately. Within an hour of its release, it soared to No. 1 on the iTunes charts and currently remains there.
ORANGE did not receive a traditional marketing and promotional push in any sense and has only been supported by the single “Thinking About You,” which had previously been released by Ocean as a demo nearly a year ago. He did however make headlines across the globe on July 4 when he took to his Tumblr to clear up rumors of his sexuality, admitting to a love affair with a man when he was 19.
You can stream channel Orange in its entirety here.
