August Alsina, who we first introduced you to back in 2011, made his New York performance debut this past Tuesday for Def Jam’s ‘Spotlight Live’ event at Stage Forty8. The 20-year old New Orleans native took the stage by storm performing some of his fan favorite remixes such as “Swimming Pools” and “Shoot or Die,” along with cuts off his debut mixtape ‘The Product,’ including “Ode To My Project Chicks.”
August let the crowd know how he likes to live his life with his buzz single “I Love This Ish” featuring fellow Def Jam signee Trinidad James. But, it was his closing song that had the whole place in attention. As he was performing his popular remake of Juicy J’s “Bandz A Make Her Dance,” he cut the track in the middle and pointed out radio personality Angela Yee in the front row. Dedicating the record to her, he jumped into the crowd and serenaded Angela as her friends and peers laughed and cheered at the moment.
We caught up with August prior to the show during soundcheck and spoke to him briefly about his music and what he will be releasing soon. Check out our exclusive video with August at Spotlight Live below!
