Kelis surprised us when she released her new record last week. An obvious leap in a new musical direction for the often avant-garde singer, but one that impressed many with its feel-good, retro-pop vibe. This is only the beginning for Kelis though, as she has revealed that her sixth album is complete and she is eyeing a September release.
According to Pitchfork, the follow-up to 2010’s Flesh Tone is tentatively titled FOOD. The album was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and will be released on his label Federal Prism.
“I’m really excited, my album is done,” tweeted Kelis. “It sounds like love and summer balled up into one!”
The Sitek-produced song, which first surfaced mistakenly titled “Call on Me,” is officially the first single and properly titled “Jerk Ribs.”
