It’s often said that love makes the world go ‘round and 3x Grammy-nominated R&B crooner Raheem DeVaughn is not only an advocate, but a purveyor of this belief. With the release of his fourth studio album A Place Called Loveland coming later this summer (August 20), the DC native caught up with ThisisRnB TV while in New York, to deliver a special acoustic performance of his current hit single, “Love Connection,” for ThisisRnB Sessions.
Backed by a keyboardist, Raheem keeps it simple, conveying the raw emotion and passion, behind the infectious Carvin & Ivan produced song, which is currently climbing (No. 11 at publish time) the Urban AC charts.
Following his performance the singer/songwriter spoke to us about the forthcoming ‘Loveland’ album, which he describes as a “fantastic voyage, an eclectic ride of eargasms and poetry in motion.” He breaks down the thoughts behind his song “Wrong Forever,” how a man can struggle dealing with negative thoughts over his past when he’s with a ‘good’ woman. In addition he shares advice for how young men and woman need to embrace growth and honestly in their relationships.
With the new release, comes the new nickname the ‘Love King,’ but he is still the ‘R&B Hippie, Neo-Soul Rockstar’ as well. Raheem breaks down how he uses these labels as an extension of the theme of his albums, and what the latest name means.
Although his new LP is coming in the near months, he is constantly recording, and reveals he has records in the stash with rappers Pusha T and Big K.R.I.T.. But, one project he is really passionate about, and seriously planning to release, is his joint album with Snoop Dogg. Raheem shares details on the project, how it came about, and the plans to release it.
