Janelle Monaé gets down with a her retro dance party inspired new song, “Dance Apocalyptic.” The eclectic performer follows her single “Q.U.E.E.N.” with the feel-good, energetic party anthem, which is the second single off her forthcoming sophomore album ‘The Electric Lady,’ which she has announced is hitting stores on September 10!
The music video for ‘Dance Apocalyptic’ will premiere next Tuesday, July 2, and is expected to feature a retro vibe with Janelle’s standard black and white color schemes.
Speaking about her new album, Janelle explained the inspiration for the title came from this collection of paintings she was doing while performing on stage. She was constantly painting the same style backside image of a mysterious woman, and this lead to the name. In turn this inspired a deeper look into her own self, and thoughts on topics such as religion, sexuality, love, making-love, politics and more.
She will perform at the BET Awards on Sunday. Watch a video teaser and listen to the full song below:
