The-Dream paid a visit to Hot 97 for an early morning interview with the ‘Juan Epstein’ crew, Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg & Ebro. In the lengthy chat, the platinum hitmaker opened up speaking about learning about his family history as a young boy from his grandfather, and tracing his ancestors back to Africa. The talk got in depth about his music and records he’s written, including the story of creating “Single Ladies” for Beyoncé.
He explained how he transitioned from a songwriter to a full on producer, learning while in the studio with others and picking it up, so he would never have to rely on others when he was inspired to write something. He answered a question from Rosenberg’s brother about why he thinks he gets love from the ‘hipster’ crowd, which most often don’t gravitate toward R&B stars. In addition they discuss Dream’s connection to the current trend of Alt-R&B.
