Beyoncé and Jay-Z joined thousands seeking justice for Trayvon Martin in rallies held across the country on Saturday. The superstar couple showed their support alongside Bey’s mother Tina Knowles, Trayvon’s mother Sybrina Fulton, and Rev. Al Sharpton, whose organization the National Action Network organized the New York vigil following George Zimmerman’s acquittal last weekend.

The Carters wore wristbands that said “I Am Trayvon Martin” as they listened to Fulton and Sharpton speak to the crowd outside the federal courthouse.

Beyoncé posted a message on her website and encouraged others to sign a petition for the Justice Department to open a civil rights case against Zimmerman.

“We have made so much progress and cannot allow hatred and racism to divide us,” read the note. “When we all join together, people of all races, we have the power to change the world we live in. We must fight for Trayvon the same way the generation before us fought for Emmett Till.”

The vigil was one of 100 held across the country, from L.A. to Miami.

Beyoncé held a moment of silence for Trayvon at her Nashville concert and Jay-Z dedicated “Young Forever” to the slain teen at his “Legends of the Summer” tour kickoff in Toronto earlier this week.
