Brandy kicked off the 2013 ESSENCE Music Festival on Friday as the first headliner to grace the mainstage at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
In her nearly two decade long career the singer/actress hit the Essence Fest stage for the first time, delivering a high-energy set covering her large catalog of hits including, “Full Moon,” “Best Friend,” “I Wanna Be Down,” “Sittin’ Up In My Room,” and some fan favorites like “Never Say Never,” “Angel In Disguise,” and “Who Is She 2 U.” Brandy also treated the audience to her regular tribute to her idol and mentor Whitney Houston. In addition she performed a few tracks from her 2012 album ‘Two Eleven‘.
Brandy crammed nearly 20 songs into her 45-minute set, as she brought the audience to their feet early and kept them rocking along, only slowing down to show off her vocal prowess even more on ballads such as “Have You Ever” and “Almost Doesn’t Count.”
