Mario is finally back with the hot single “Somebody Else” featuring Nicki Minaj, which is climbing the Billboard charts. The R&B vocalist stopped by “106 & Park” on Wednesday to drop off the video for the Polow Da Don produced record, and promote his first album in four years.
He explained the concept behind his new single. “It’s a conversation. I’m conversing with the woman that I’m in a relationship with,” said Mario. “We’re talking about her leaving and I’m saying that I know you coming back. It wasn’t that serious, but at the same time, you wasn’t no better. Why you leaving?”
He shouted out Nicki and the Barbz. “I respect Nicki Minaj and what she has done in her career. The music industry is about knowing where you wanna go, knowing who you wanna be, and she has shown that. To have her a part of my project is a blessing.” His upcoming album will showcase his versatility. “Expect to party with me, expect to cry with me, expect to laugh with me. It’s a well-rounded album,” said Mario, who recorded an entire album with Rico Love a year-and-a-half ago, but scrapped it.
“It wasn’t what I wanted for the direction of my record, so I started over and recorded a whole new album.”
He plans to drop another song before the end of summer, described as a “turn up, summer record,” and a few ballads for the winter. Check out Mario’s return to ‘106 & Park’ below:
