Following the release of her impressive new single “If We Had Your Eyes,” fans are excited for Michelle Williams return to contemporary music. The Destiny’s Child diva has been hard at work on her fourth solo album, which she has crafted primarily with Harmony Samuels (Fantasia, Kelly Rowland) and Warryn Campbell.
While on the red carpet at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, Michelle spoke with Rap-Up TV about the new single, and the sound of the album entitled Journey to Freedom.
“My mother listened to it, and it’s supposed to be an inspirational type of record, and she was like, ‘This is different.’ She was like, ‘This sounds ratchet,’” Michelle revealed. “It kinda does have a gritty, urban feel to it.”
She may surprise some with her new sound. “I got a couple beats on there that are gonna make you turn up.” And an unexpected collaboration, “I collabed with somebody that people are gonna be shocked about.”
There is no official release date yet, but the album is expected later this year.
