As if anyone doubted it, Drake has once again debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with his brand new album ‘Nothing Was The Same.’ The third studio LP from the rapper/singer marks his personal best sales week coming in at 658,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
His last album, 2011’s “Take Care,” debuted at No. 1 with 631,000. His full-length debut, “Thank Me Later,” launched at No. 1 with 447,000 in 2010. The year before that, his debut EP, “So Far Gone,” bowed and peaked at No. 6 with sales of 73,000 copies.
The other top debuts come from Kings of Leon No. 2 with “Mechanical Bull” selling 110,000 copies, Cher returns at No. 3 with “Closer to the Truth” shifting 63,000, and Elton John is back with the new album “The Diving Board” at No. 4 with 47,000 sold. It’s his 18th top 10 album.
In related R&B chart news, Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines‘ LP is officially gold as he moved another 16k copies to put his total at 505k. The Weeknd moved another 15k to bring his 3 week total to 137k, Tamar Braxton is inching closer to the 200 mark as she moved 14k this week putting her at 182k. John Legend moved another 13k of ‘Love In The Future‘ bringing his month long total to 130k. Janelle Monae’s new album ‘The Electric Lady‘ is at 71k, TGT’s debut ‘3 Kings‘ is at 152k and Jaheim’s ‘Appreciation Day‘ is at 93k. Last but certainly not least, K. Michelle’s debut ‘Rebellious Soul‘ is now at 135k.
