Following the stunning announcement that the one-and-only Prince would be the main headliner at the 20th Annual ESSENCE Music Festival this coming July 4th weekend in New Orleans, pretty much everyone was ready to sign up. But, we knew they have much more up their sleeve, and today the official line-up has been unveiled!
Returning to the Mercedes Benz Superdome for their 20th music and empowerment festival (big congrats on that!!), the iconic magazine has a star-studded line-up ready to hit the main stage; including Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Charlie Wilson and Ledisi.
The Superlounges are expected to see electrifying performances as well from the likes of; Sevyn Streeter, Marsha Ambrosius, Elle Varner, King, Robert Glasper, Sebastian Mikael, 112, Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Stephanie Mills, PJ Morton, Eve, Amel Larrieux, Raheem Davaugh, Kourtney Heart, Leela James, Liv Warfield, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, The Original Pinettes Brass Band and more to still be announced.
Returning as the official host of the evening concerts will be radio personality and comedian Nephew Tommy.
Gospel star Yolanda Adams will be honored with an all-star tribute at ESSENCE’s Empowerment Experience, hosted by Donnie McClurkin. Rev. Al Sharpton, Steve Harvey and Iyanla Vanzant are all scheduled to participate in the Empowerment Experience as well.
The 2014 ESSENCE Festival will be begin on July 3rd and will wrap up on July 6th.
