“Gimmie some good love… some body rockin’ knockin’ da boots.”
R&B group H-Town formed in 1991 in Houston, Texas founded by twin brothers Keven “Dino” Conner, Solomon “Shazam” Conner, and friend Darryl “G.I.” Jackson. Guess who they were discovered by??? 2 Live Crew’s own Uncle Luke!!! “Knockin’ Da Boots,” from their 1993 debut album Fever For Da Flavor, became a No. 1 hit on the R&B charts and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
H-Town won ‘Best New Artist’ at the 1993 Soul Train Music Awards thanks to the song and their debut album. “Knockin’ Da Boots” ended up being the groups biggest hit to date, and the clever turn of phrase became synonymous with sex. LOL.
The song showcased lead singer Dino’s raw soulful vocals as well as his unique ad libs. It also shows Shazam’s incredible range (in the vamp) and GI’s silky vocals, as well as the group’s harmony. While the group was largely underrated, music critics and enthusiasts have credited Dino as being one of the best male R&B vocalists of our time.
You cannot talk about R&B classics without mentioning H-Town’s “Knockin’ Da Boots.”
After the jump check out Dino singing a snippet of “Knockin’ Da Boots” a cappella as the group accepts their Soul Train Award presented by Mary J. Blige and Tony! Toni! Tone! Few singers can sound just as good live as the track if not better! Check it out below!
