August Alsina has given the world his Testimony, and the fans have shown their support! The rising star’s debut album has landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 1 on the R&B chart, selling over 67,000 copies of the NNTME/Def Jam album.
August’s tale of survival has been preceded by numerous fan favorite releases including “Get Ya Money” featuring Fabolous, and the singles “I Luv This Sh*t” featuring Trinidad James, “Ghetto” featuring Yo Gotti, “Make It Home” featuring Jeezy and the most recent “Kissin On My Tattoos.”
The release date of Testimony carried personal significance for August; April 15th was the birthday of his older brother, Melvin LaBranch III, who inspired August to pursue music. Tragically, Melvin was gunned down in New Orleans in 2010, just days before August’s 18th birthday.
“As an artist,” August reflects, “I struggle with how much of myself to give to the people. How much I want my personal business to be judged. I think the EP struck a good balance of who I am and what I’ve been through, but that was just the beginning. Nothing is held back on TESTIMONY. When people hear my story, and see that I came from nothing, they’ll see that it’s possible for them too.”
