Jon B is a R&B singer, songwriter, musician and producer. “Are U Still Down” was a single released from his 1997 double-platinum album Cool Relax. The song features the late great rapper Tupac Shakur, and is often referred to as one of the greatest R&B and Hip Hop collaborations.
Jon B and Tupac met on the set of Tupac and K-Ci and JoJo’s “How Do You Want It” music video after a mutual friend introduced them. Jon B. stated that Tupac had been shouting him out and really liked his first album Bonafide, and the two just hit it off from there. The single came about after Jon B played a few instrumentals for Tupac and Tupac played Johnny J’s “R U Still Down” and they both decided that was “the one”.
Jon B has stated that Tupac was very melodic and he was a “singer”. Jon also stated that Tupac penned the hook and most of the song. Jon’s silky vocals and Tupac’s perfect flow made for a great timeless classic. Enjoy the video above!
