Shalamar was a R&B group and dance trio that was originally created by Soul Train booking agent Dick Griffey and show creator Don Cornelius. The group’s most popular line-up consisted of Howard Hewett, Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniel. The group was regarded as fashion icons and trendsetters and became very influential for their dance sequences.
“This Is For The Lover In You” was a single from the group’s 1980 album, Three for Love. It peaked at No. 17 on the U.S. R&B chart in 1981. The song was made popular again in 1996 with Babyface’s million-selling single cover that featured both Shalamar and LL Cool J. The Babyface version reached No. 6 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart and No. 2 on the U.S. R&B chart. A music video was shot in which the three former members of Shalamar were digitally reunited on screen.
