Janelle Monáe is throwing a party to celebrate all the “Electric Ladies” in the music video for the title track off her latest album.
In the visual the consummate performer heads back to college as a member of a sorority called the Electro Phi Betas. The ladies throw a party at their sorority house, doing the electric slide with some fraternity brothers and even bringing out a marching band. Janelle honors her friends T-Boz, Estelle, Esperanza Spalding, Monica and Kimbra, while T.I. makes an appearance, along with Janelle’s mother.
Janelle Monáe recently honored First Lady Michelle Obama as the “First Electric Lady.” “First of all, I am honored to be the First Electric Lady. I got my letter in the mail—I framed it; it’s up,” said Obama. “I love that she is one of the young artists here who is making music that means something. She has a message. She has a voice. She has a power in her.”
