Buzzing vintage-soul singer, Andra Day, unveils the music video to her brand new single “Forever Mine,” from her debut album Cheers to the Fall, due out August 28 via Buskin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Records. The visual was directed by Spike Lee, who was impressed by Andra’s timeless, sultry vocals during the What Happened Miss Simone? tribute at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Andra describes “Forever Mine” as a love song written to God about her spiritual relationship, which strengthened throughout the ending of her eight-year relationship with her first love. But it’s also a head-nodding, finger-snapping doo-wop song with a vintage, cinematic feel. Spike Lee honors the powerfulness of the song with a simple concept, making the legendary live box installation in the lobby of the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood the focal point of his vision. Spike gives you a glimpse of Andra’s personal journey and her pursuit to live out her dreams.
“The video’s concept is [about] me,” Andra explains. “The box represents my sanctuary. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is pray, confess and be still, so that box [is] that space where all of my creativity comes to me. Then I see people and life through that space.” Andra adds, from Spike, “I’ve learned that simplicity is a very powerful thing. You don’t need much to convey a message.”
Fans that pre-order her forthcoming debut album Cheers to the Fall on iTunes now, will receive 4 songs instantly. Check out Andra’s new video below:
