With the release of his sophomore album, This Thing Called Life, officially released today, August Alsina has given fans another dose of his reality. Delivering the visual to his single “Song Cry,” the New Orleans native takes us down a dusty road of his emotional journey.
Directed by Payne Lindsey, the video shows a stranded August in the desert after his motorcycle runs out of gas. Taking some time off at the nearest motel to gather himself, red rose petals fall around him in between cuts of him and a ballerina outside in the rain. Waking up on a bed of roses, the singer is then shown lighting himself on fire inside of a casket while tears of blood roll down his face
A depiction of his own hurt, the artistic stance on how he feels brings about an impressive visual collaboration between himself and Lindsey.
