OVO Sound’s dvsn (pron. Division) has certainly stormed the scene since their introduction last fall. Now with the release of their debut album Sept. 5th, the mysterious group has been buzzing heavily, and rightfully so.
Keeping the surprises coming today, dvsn debuts a remake (albeit a risky one) of Marvin Gaye’s classic “Let’s Get It On.” They have labeled the cover as a “tribute,” which we can respect, and make it their own with contemporary production.
Lyrics take a back seat to the music on the tribute, which is tender and seductive, with sexy piano chords that are then switched out for an underlying wail of electric guitar. Dvsn keeps the vocals to a minimum but still deliver a potent falsetto, which is just the right amount of Maxwell-esque seduction.
“Let’s Get It On” isn’t the only track dvsn has remixed recently. Last month, the act released a mash-up of Aaliyah’s “One in a Million” and Prince’s “Purple Rain.”
Take a listen to their modern take on “Let’s Get It On” below, what do you think?
