Mariah Carey’s life story will be the inspiration behind an upcoming fictional drama series.
According to Deadline, Carey will executive produce the as-yet untitled project which will tell the tale of an ambitious bi-racial teen from a difficult background who goes on to become one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.
Set in 1986 New York City, the series will document the rise of Mariah from the age of 16. It will feature some of her real-life experiences on the path to superstardom
Written by Nina Colman (Mahogany), the team of executive producers include Carey’s manager Stella Bulochnikov, who spearheaded E!’s eight-part event Mariah’s World, and her Hollywood power-player friend Brett Ratner.
This is part of a television push for Carey, who is also set to executive produce “All I Want for Christmas,” an animated movie based on her holiday classic.
Outside of television, Mariah recently launched Butterfly MC Records, a new label that will be home to her next studio album. “I am putting my heart and soul into making more new music,” Carey said in April. “I am so thrilled for this next chapter and to continue working with, and for, everyone that I love.”
