Andra Day continues to use her vocal gifts to bless us and be a beacon of positivity. After an appearance on “The Daily Show” this past Wednesday night, the Grammy-nominated singer debuts the empowering new anthem “Stand Up for Something” featuring Common.
The inspiring song, which was penned by iconic songwriter Diane Warren, is the first release off the soundtrack to the forthcoming film, Marshall, about judge and Civil Rights activist Thurgood Marshall.
The record highlights Andra’s show-stopping vocals as well as thought-provoking rhymes from Common.
The full soundtrack album for Marshall arrives in stores and at digital retailers on Sept. 15 while the film opens in theaters everywhere October 13. Marshall also marks Andra’s on-screen film debut.
“I was so moved by the story of Thurgood Marshall,” explains Andra Day. “It was an incredible honor to not only be asked to record the lead single, but also appear in the movie. I’ve always dreamed of working with Diane and Common, and the experience was better than I could have ever imagined. This is such an important project. I’m thankful to be a part of it.”
Warren shared her own feelings adding, “I am so honored to have worked with Andra and Common on this important song. I am more proud of this song than any other I have ever written.”
