Surprise! New Music Friday comes through with an unexpected new collaboration for R&B heads everywhere.
Fresh off the Season 2 premiere of “Insecure,” Jazmine Sullivan and Bryson Tiller have teamed up on the title track for the soundtrack to Issa Rae’s HBO series. The drama unfolds as the R&B stars go back and forth with their relationship issues.
The Philly powerhouse kicks things off with her sultry vocals. “Why you gotta be so insecure, when I did all I could do to keep you wanting more?” Jazmine asks her man. “Why can’t you get up off my back? / I can take a lot of shit, but I won’t take that.”
Pen Griffey comes through with the male perspective. “Stop trippin’ girl, you know me, I’m your homie,” he reassures her. “I want it all for myself / Sorry if I’m comin’ off insecure.”
Jazmine has been working on new music for the anticipated follow-up to her acclaimed 2015 album Reality Show. Recently, she teamed up with emerging soul singer Niia on the remix to “Sideline,” and with Mali Music on “Loved By You.” Meanwhile, Bryson dropped his sophomore LP, True to Self in May. On Thursday (Aug. 3), he kicked off his “Set It Off Tour” in Atlanta with H.E.R. and Metro Boomin.
