On Tuesday night (Aug. 22), Grammy Award winner India.Arie serenaded the legendary Roberta Flack at the 2017 Black Girls Rock! Awards.
India performed Flack’s 1972 international hit “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” which garnered her the Grammy for “Record “and “Song of the Year.”
Next, India was joined by Tyrese Gibson to perform “Where Is The Love.” The song is one of Flack’s timeless love songs which she performed with the late Donnie Hathaway. The duet won them the Grammy Award for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals” in 1973.
India.Arie released her new project, SongVersation: Medicine on June 30. The 8-song EP is an extension of her 2013 release SongVersation, and inspired by many of today’s turbulent issues.
