Andra Day can do no wrong!
Covering Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit,” the songstress teams up with the Equal Justice Initiative to shed light on the difficult racial history of America and the ways that racial injustice continues today.
In the video, we see a radiant Andra with Billie’s signature flowers in her hair as she sings the hauntingly iconic song.
The joint project with the EJI also takes us around the South so we can visually see some of the places that over 4,000 black people were lynched across the area throughout the early 1900s. Paired together with Day’s voice, these surreal images remind us of our history and how much work America has left to do.
