On this episode of Billboard’s “How It Went Down,” young R&B star Khalid breaks down the story of the creation of his song “Shot Down,” from his breakthrough debut album American Teen.
Throughout the animated clip, the young singer-songwriter explains how skipping spring break for a studio session lead to the birth of the emotional song, and why it made his friends cry.
Speaking about his mood when writing the record, Khalid explained: “I want it to flow, I want it to be a song that you can just snap to, and you can just be like..ayyee (does dance move). But I also want it to be a song that you can kinda cry to.”
Khalid goes on to reveal a personal moment with his good friend, who was going through a tough relationship situation with his girl, and how it confirmed to him that the song was special.
