Buzzing Alt-R&B songstress Kelela released her stellar debut album Take Me Apart last month. Preceded by the stunning video for lead single “LMK,” the singer follows up with a compelling visual for different reasons, for “Blue Light.”
In the Helmi-directed video, Kelela appears to be coming live from an icy cave as she seductively coos the lovelorn lyrics. “Darling, my guard is down / When I know you’re around / Only one that fit the crown,” she sings to a lover who is awaiting her late-night arrival.
As the camera moves up and down and around her figure in closeup shots, the singer’s body isn’t the only contorting element. Like the touch and tight grip of her lover, Kelela’s dreads stretch and tighten over her torso in erotic motions and light bondage.
Kelela is currently prepping to release a short film, titled ‘All It Took.’ The project is set to debut at the New Museum in New York on November 12. In the meantime, check out her “Blue Light” video above.
