To accompany the release of his hotly-anticipated new album War & Leisure, R&B maverick Miguel has unveiled the official music video for his politically charged new song “Now.”
The crooner previously debuted the song with a performance at the benefit event “Schools Not Prisons” in Adelanto, California, which happens to be the home of the largest immigrant prison in the state.
The concert was put together to raise awareness about the immigrant prison system and advocate for prisons to be replaced by community-based solutions. On the acoustic-driven record Miguel addresses President Donald Trump and his administration’s treatment of immigrants and minorities.
“CEO of the free world now, build your walls up high and wide / Make it rain to keep them out / That won’t change what we are inside,” he sings. “Is that the look of freedom now? / Is that the sound of freedom now? / ‘Cause it’s plain to see a man’s integrity by the way he treats those he does not need.”
The video includes footage from Miguel’s performance, his speech outside the prison, scenes from an activist group, and his meet-and-greet with local fans. Check out the powerful video above.
Next up, the Los Angeles crooner will take his new album on the road with “The War & Leisure Tour,” kicking off Feb. 22 in Portland, OR and making stops in 34 cities before closing April 12 in Berkeley, CA.
