Earlier this year, Jhené Aiko puffed and passed us the vibey remix to her Trip single “Sativa” featuring Rae Sremmurd. Hot off her European tour, the songbird has now released a special solo stripped-back recording of the single for Spotify Singles sessions.
Lush with a refreshing quality that you can’t help but soak in the acoustic track is laced with soft keys and gentle pickings of harp strings. Aiko’s airy vocals are harmonious and infectious as she coos about an euphoric substance causing elevation.
“Got me feelin’ some type of way,” she sings. “Concentratin’ concentratin’ on the way / You keep the rhythm / Oh my God, I’m glad you came / You came through with that sativa / Indica be havin’ me stuck / You know just how to keep me up / You know it, better believe it.”
Additionally, Aiko performed one of her favorite covers to do during acoustic sessions — “Keep Ya Head Up” by 2pac. It’s something we’ve heard her do numerous times in the past, but this is a super smooth recorded version. “I know you fed up ladies / Keep your head up,” she sings. “Things are gonna get easier / Ooh child things will get brighter / Keep your head up.”
