One year since Ctrl, SZA is already planning her next album.
Despite the fact that she hasn’t started working on it yet, Solana says it will be her best yet in a newly-released Flaunt cover story.
“I’m still miserable,” she explained. “My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that… because it’s going to be my last album.”
She’s in the album’s early stages. “I’ve been talking shit to myself on different topics every day for the last week,” she explained, “which is typically how I start—coming up with little catchphrases in the car on the way home, and I’ll be like, ‘Cute.’ Then I’ll be like, ‘I think I’m ready to write and start recording.’”
Amanda Charchian shot SZA’s grainy Flaunt cover. It’s part of the magazine’s “Fantasy Issue: Seasons Change.” Elsewhere in the interview, she addresses her Grammy loss: “God didn’t give me the Grammys, because he knows I would have quit, like ‘I have nothing else to do.’”
While she works on her sophomore album, SZA is also prepping a deluxe edition of Ctrl. The project may feature at least six bonus tracks.
