Multi-platinum recording artist Bryson Tiller calls all the dogs out for the release of his new song, “Down Like That,” from the soundtrack to the upcoming children’s motion picture Paw Patrol: The Might Movie (Paramount Pictures/Nickelodeon).
Far from his signature trap soul persona and sound, Pen Griffey delivers a feel-good, fun-loving, sing-a-long track showcasing a pack’s unity. “You start your fires, keep people down,” he sings at the beginning of the bouncy track with lyrics inspired by the hit cartoon. “But you have no idea who you’re messing with now (Oh)/We take it higher, crank up the sound/If you think you’re gonna push us around.”
For children, Tiller taps into a new lane and enjoys it as he’s allowed to create original music for children fascinated with cartoon franchises like his own. In a recent interview with EBONY, the father of two shared that his children love the new song as they were the inspiration behind it.
“My kids absolutely love the fact that I am a part of this, and there’s nothing but smiles every time they hear me,” he said. “But, honestly, they were the second driving factor in my hopping on the movie’s soundtrack. The first was the fact that it was just something very different for me, and it got me excited. Sometimes I get bored in the studio, so this is a way to keep the job fun for me.”
The film stars an all-star cast of voices that includes Chris Rock, Kim Kardashian, Lil Rel Lowery, Taraji P. Henson, and Serena Williams. Paw Patrol follows the adventures of six rescue dogs led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder. In the upcoming film, directed by Cal Brunker, the gang embark on their biggest adventure yet. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
“When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups’ arch-rival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with a mad scientist to steal the superpowers for the two villains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it’s too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.”
“Down Like That” joins other original songs for the soundtrack, including “Learning To Fly” by Christina Aguilera and “Bark To The Beat” by McKenna Grace. Tiller appears on the soundtrack via RCA.
Tiller is fresh from his “Back, and I’m Better Tour” from May to June. Tiller is working on an untitled new album on Trapsoul/RCA Records. He released his latest single, “Outside,” in October 2022.
