The 16th annual Headies Awards 2023 Recap: Inside the Wins, Biggest Red Carpet Moments and Interviews, The Headies Shined Bright

Some of the biggest names in pan-African music gathered at The 16th annual Headies Awards over Labor Day Weekend at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA.

Hosted by Emmy Award-nominated actor Terrence J, and Nigerian-American actress Osas Ighodaro, The Headies is a coveted pan-African music award event celebrating the African Renaissance. The Headies rewards, recognizes, and celebrates the greatest in Afrobeats, African music, and culture, featuring sounds from South, East, Central, North, and West Africa.

Rema and Burna Boy each won three awards and Odumodublvck, Asake, and Victony & Tempoe each won two awards. Selena Gomez won International Artist of the Year and Director K, won Best Music Video. Asake took home this year’s Album of the Year award as well as the Next Rated Award, which came with a home.  Click here to see the full list of winners.

The star-studded event was a celebration of pageantry, and artistry, and featured some of the world’s most influential and impactful artists from Africa to the United States.  ThisIsRnB caught up with some of this year’s attendees on the Red Carpet and experienced the pride of the Motherland finely represented, fully recognized, fully expressed, and on full display.

We had the pleasure of speaking with some incredible people represented were dignitaries, musical talent, directors, artists, actors, and more; Ambassador Amina Smaila, Director Pink, Doctor Soul, Omawumi, Wande Coal, Duncan Daniel, Annabelle McKenzie, GBenro, OY, Oba, Marie Monroe all shared the significance and impact of The Headies Awards on them.

Inspired by the need to fill a significant void and be the voice of a generation in the culture that they represent, The Headies understands the urban contemporary pop culture that Afrobeats brings to mainstream music. This year’s event hosted a mega-platform that interfaced with young, talented artists who represent the future of global music.
