Album Review: Tyla starts a dance party with new EP “WWP”

By

Tyla recently released her EP “WWP,” and if you’re ready for a party, good time, and a euphoric high on life, this is what WWP is all about. “WWP” stands for “we want to party” and is a four-track EP that blends Pop, R&B, and Afrobeats.

“WWP” was officially released on Friday, July 25. This is the Grammy winner’s first project since the release of her debut, self-titled album in 2024. And even though it’s only an 11-minute listen, it’s 11 minutes well spent.

The singles “Bliss” and “Is It’ were previously released, with two new tracks, “Bliss” and “Dynamite,” featuring Wizkid. The South African artist debuted “Bliss” in May and “Is It” earlier this month.

“WWP” makes you feel like you’re either on vacation or a dance floor- it just makes you feel like dancing and very sexy.  WizKid and Tyla take turns saying what they want to do to each other. It’s a very sexy, sultry song.

“Dynamite” is a favorite from the EP. This is an Afrobeats vibe, with its syncopation, bass, and guitar.  Tyla and Wizkid talk about dancing carefree with one another. They both know what they want from each other- and that’s a good time.

“Mr. Media” has a Pop/Afrobeats vibe, and Tyla and tells him to mind his business because she’s a bad b**tch who “makes your stock go up” if she’s on your arm.

This song could be an anthem to live your life, be yourself, and not worry about what others say or feel. They don’t walk in yours.

According to Rollingstone, while sharing her songs with fans at a listening session in London, Tyla said “she went back to all of her old demos when she decided she wanted to release a mixtape. She remembered the 2022 “Dynamite” track with Wizkid. “And it was still good, like after three years! I just told him, ‘Let’s finish it because I want to drop it.”

Tyla also told her fans that WWP is not just about partying but enjoying life with the ones you love. Even the way Tyla sings on the tracks sounds carefree, hopeful, and smooth.

“WWP” is an excellent example of how music has the power to shift your mood and help you escape-escape the hustle and bustle, the worries, the cares, and just dance and enjoy life. That’s how it will make you feel.

Tyla recently worked on the “Smurfs” soundtrack and has been performing at festivals around Barbados and Poland. She will perform at the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park in New York on Sept. 27, alongside headliners The Weeknd and Shakira.
