GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter and actress Tamar Braxton is using her voice for more than music and television—she’s stepping into the health space in a powerful new way.
The multi-talented artist and outspoken advocate has partnered with Gilead Sciences, Inc. to raise awareness about HIV prevention, with a focus on educating Black women about PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis).
The partnership launched at Essence Festival 2025, where Tamar joined the Safe & Sexy panelist Raheem DeVaughn, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe, Rashad Burgess at the Global Black Economic Forum.

With her signature honesty and energy, she spoke directly to the community: “Black women have stopped talking about HIV, and it needs to be part of our conversation again.”
While Black women make up over half of all new HIV diagnoses among women, they represent just 13% of the U.S. female population—a staggering disparity that highlights the urgent need for awareness and action. Tamar’s mission is clear: help Black women feel empowered, protected, and informed when it comes to their health, their pleasure, and their peace of mind.
