Pharrell Williams is working on his first solo album in seven years, a much anticipated project for many, but the hit maker has confirmed there will be one major difference from 2006’s “In My Mind.”
“No rapping,” he told Complex. “It’s focused. Like I told you, that’s the difference between 30 and 40. ’Cause I was 30, now I’m 40 — and I’m not rapping.”
Williams started his career as a rapper before moving into production, but the bulk of his releases — solo or with hip hop band N.E.R.D. — have included rap to some degree.
However, the producer’s resurgence in 2013 has relied primarily on his success as a producer and singer, including singing the hook on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and providing vocals on fellow summer smash hit “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and T.I.. In addition to his feel-good single “Happy,” off the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.
In regards to T.I., Williams also revealed that the rapper will be featured on one of the new tracks that he is working on for Usher’s next album.
