The word classic gets thrown around often in the music industry. Usually by people too close to a project, and their attachment can make their opinion jaded. Polow Da Don aka Awesome Jones, recently used the infamous word to describe his executive produced forthcoming album by Lloyd, King Of Hearts. Well, the first 3 singles from the album have all been excellent records (Lay It Down, Let’s Get It In & Cupid), and after hearing about the guest list for the album, it might just be a masterpiece, or at least a contemporary version.
The Young Goldie has enlisted tour-mate Trey Songz for the sexy “Be The One,” R. Kelly & Keri Hilson on the socially-aware, Michael Jackson-esque “World Cry” and Chris Brown on “Love Me Girl”.
But perhaps the LP’s most buzzed about collaboration will be the Lil’ Wayne and Andre 3000 assisted “Miss That Pu**y”. The tongue-in-cheek cut has a retro ‘50s sound with explicit lyrics, detailing the aftermath of a female’s infidelity—particularly on her lower regions.
“I liked the way it used to be,” a, um, tightlipped Lloyd told VIBE of the track’s anatomical focus. He hadn’t yet heard the cameo verses by Wayne or Andre, who both appeared coincidentally, on different versions of Lloyd’s 2006 hit, “You”.
The crooner was a bit more forthcoming about his newest single, ”Cupid,” though. With it’s static bass and glorious horns, the song conjures memories of first-love hand-holding at the roller skating rink.
“It’s that feeling of first falling for someone, they way it makes you feel and the optimism that love brings,” Lloyd says of the Polow produced hit. “It just feels like everything can be okay, like love can make everything better and last forever. It’s a very intimate feeling that we hope for.”
Lloyd’s fourth album, King Of Hearts, is set for an April 19 release.
