News: BJ The Chicago Kid Signs To Motown

By

BJ The Chicago Kid has been on a strong indie grind, but the soulful crooner will be bringing his talents to the home that Berry Gordy build. Following a show in his hometown this past Thursday, BJ announced the news via Twitter.

“Chicago Thank Yall For An Incredible Show 2nite!!! Thank Yall For You Patience w/me over the yrs… Time well served. Motown Baby,” he tweeted.

BJ released his “Pineapple Now-Laters” mixtape/album his past February on iTunes and since the release it has steadily received high praise from both R&B fans and critics. Riding a wave of old school word of mouth promotion primarily.

We had previously had a conversation that MMG could have been a decent homebase for him as well, but the legendary Motown makes plenty of sense, and with its new restructuring we welcome the potential and send BJ our best wishes. With Ne-Yo’s new position at the label, maybe they can work on his debut.
