Grammy week is in full swing, and the stars were out Wednesday night. Essence Magazine held their 4th annual ‘Black Women In Music’ event at Greystone Manor Supperclub in West Hollywood. The party honored Solange Knowles and rising British songbird Lianne La Havas as “Breakthrough Artist.”
Many of R&B’s leading ladies and some newcomers were in attendance including Tamia, Jill Scott, Estelle, Kelis, Dawn Richard, Leah LaBelle, and Bridget Kelly. Solange performed some new material off her acclaimed EP ‘True,’ and was joined onstage by her collaborator Devonté “Dev” Hynes and Earth Wind & Fire’s Verdine White.
But it wasn’t just a ladies night as some of their male peers celebrated the special event as well, including Tank, Bilal, Mario and Eric Benét. Check out HipHollywoods video recap above, photos below, and additionally some footage of Solange performing a cover of Selena’s “I Could Fall In Love.”
