Following her performance on Friday night at the 2013 ESSENCE Music Festival, Jill Scott visited the press room for photos and questions.
The soulful songstress shared some details about the two new albums she has been working on. The first, entitled ‘The Lullaby’ album, has been created for adults as well as infants to be played at bedtime.
“It is intended to help you sleep, all the things that you get feed all day, about your life, about your beauty, about your capacity, about your failures, all the stuff that you see on television that you don’t have, the record is intended to deprogram you,” explained Ms. Scott. “It is a lot of chakra tones, it is a lot of true from the heart lyrics, and I could not write them until I was pregnant and understood that level of love.” Jill got together with drummer Little John Roberts, Grammy-winning musician Robert Glasper, Derek Hodge and Andre Harris, and created the album in 4 days.
The second LP, which she wasn’t able to share the name of just yet or much info, will be ‘different on your ears,’ and possibly a new sound for the singer/songwriter. She revealed she has been working on it with producer 9th Wonder and many others who she didn’t want to announce at this time. The ‘Lullaby’ album is slated to be released this year, while the other has no scheduled date yet.
