Luke James returned home to New Orleans to grace the ESSENCE Music Festival for his second year in a row.  The burgeoning R&B vocalist kicked off the final day of the annual event on Sunday, as he packed out the McDonald’s Superlounge with eager fans and early attendees.

In typical Luke fashion he shared his grace and honesty with the crowd, many of whom were seeing him for the first time live. After being on so many arena and stadium stages lately as the opening act for Beyoncé on her “Mrs. Carter Show World Tour,” it was a treat for the crooner to be back in an intimate setting, able to see and touch fans, and hand out roses to ladies in the front row.  Opening his set with cuts from his EP “Whispers In The Dark,” and performing his latest single “I.O.U.,” Luke surprised with covers of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel,” and Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up.”

Luke James once again showed his true power and vocal prowess as he closed with his debut song “I Want You.” Check out our photos below:
