R. Kelly is almost ready to kick off the ‘Black Panties‘ era, his return to a more sex driven, club and mainstream sound. Kellz has been getting in front of the people this summer, he rocked the Bonnaroo stage last month, will headline the Pitchfork Festival on Sunday, July 21, and of course performed a medley of his classics at this years BET Awards. It was that appearance in fact, where he first previewed the new song “My Story,” which will be the lead single of his forthcoming ‘Black Panties’ album.
The record has a R&B Trap feel, with a very confident verse from the R&B icon. According to his longtime collaborator and A&R DJ Wayne Williams, the record is coming very soon. We heard a rumor there might even be a feature from 2 Chainz on it, or on the remix. After hearing the preview, it sounds like a track fitting for the rappers style.
In related news, Kellz has always been a big basketball player, following the BET Awards he paid a visit to Jamie Foxx’s house to get into a pick-up game at 5 AM! Robert hit the game-winning three-point shot from almost half court right in Jamie’s face. Check out the video footage below:
