Remaining relevant for a decade in the music industry is a incredibly honorable accomplishment, but sustaining a career for two decades is incredibly rare. This is one feat that R&B crooner Bobby V is nearing in his life. The singer/songwriter began his foray to music stardom in the mid ’90s as a member of the young boy group Mista. After only one album, and the hit single “Blackberry Molasses,” the band dismantled, but Bobby remained determined to make his name, and after many years honing his talent and knocking on doors, the ATL native caught the attention of rapper Ludacris and signed to his burgeoning label Disturbing Tha Peace Records, through Island Def Jam.

Bobby went on to release two hit albums, his self-titled debut Bobby Valentino (2005) and the 2007 follow-up Special Occasion. After parting ways with DTP and Def Jam, he continued to find success through his own independent imprint Blu Kolla Dreams/EMI and released The Rebirth in 2009, which was then followed by 2011’s Fly On The Wall, and Dusk Till Dawn in 2012.

Over the years Bobby has become known for his work with production duo Tim & Bob, and for the unique sound and stylings they created together, which spawned multiple hits. Recently looking to expand his musical talent Bobby began learning the piano from his musical director, over the past two years, and at the same time found himself very inspired by some of today’s great soul or “neo-soul” singers. Using his new-found love of the piano as a form of a muse, Bobby felt it was time for a change in his sound and career, and began the process of crafting a project entirely with his band, using only live instruments. The result is the ‘Peach Moon‘ EP, which he released on Dec. 10 to iTunes and online streaming services.

While in New York City promoting the EP’s release, we were honored to host the R&B star for a special live performance for our ThisisRnB Sessions series, recorded at StadiumRed Studios. During the live set Bobby performed 3 songs at the grand piano; opening with a cover of D’Angelo’s classic “Lady,” his 2011 single “Words,” and the lead track off ‘Peach Moon,’ the soulful “Back to Love.”

Truly a commendable feat to progress your artistry and venture into a new arena independently, Bobby clearly showed why he has sustained such a lasting career during this performance. So, here’s our Christmas present to you… Watch Bobby V’s live performance now below!
