Chris Brown returned to court today for a progress hearing on his probation from the Rihanna case. The R&B superstar recently completed his 90 days of court mandated anger management rehab, which apparently has been very productive for Brown’s mental health.

According to new legal docs obtained by TMZ, an official from the rehab facility stated that Brown has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and suffered from severe insomnia and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, all of which contributed to his anger issues. In addition to the diagnosis, the paperwork stated that Chris was self-medicating inappropriately.

UPDATE: According to CNN, Brown has been ordered to return to rehab for another 2 months…

According to TMZ

The facility writes, “Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD.” The letter also says Chris was diagnosed with Bipolar II.

The letter says Chris is on meds for the bipolar and other conditions.

Chris has learned various relaxation exercises, according to the letter, and he’s tested negative for drugs, including weed, during his stay.

The facility says he’s doing really well. It says he gets up at 5 AM and works hard. They say he’s been especially good with community service, saying, “Mr. Brown’s attitude has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service responsibilities.”

According to CNN

Although Brown’s probation officer reported the singer “continues to make great improvement” in dealing with anger, stress and drugs, the judge decided during a hearing Friday he can’t go free yet. He has to be tried on an assault charge in Washington first.

Only then will the judge decide whether Brown must go to jail for violating his probation in the Rihanna assault because of the assault arrest a few blocks from the White House in October.

Brown seemed disappointed by the decision, although his three months of therapy may have helped him handle the stress in court. He closed his eyes and appeared to meditate for about five minutes while his lawyer, Mark Geragos, met privately with the judge and prosecutor.

Chris is currently prepping for the release of his sixth studio album X, due out May 5, and collaborative LP Fan of a Fan 2 with Tyga, due later this summer. He recently shot a music video for his latest hit single “Loyal” with Lil Wayne, French Montana and Too $hort in L.A., and has a new video for his upcoming collaboration with Ariana Grande in the works as well.

Keith_Legend Lol I love him. So much. But that really explains his random outbursts. Now we have a reason to excuse him.

@MsCougar21 Keith_Legend  NO that is not a reason to excuse him. That is the worst thing you can do. What you do is hold him accountable and make him make some tough choices. There are some folks he doesn’t need to be around.
He is doing better because his leeches and yes men are not near him. The real test is what happens when he gets back around them.
It’s time to let Tyga, Bow Wow, Trey Songz, Weezy and other GO.
