Throwback Tuesday: Shanice – ‘I Love Your Smile’

Shanice is a Grammy-nominated R&B singer-songwriter and actress. Released as the first single from her 1991 album Inner Child, “I Love Your Smile” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went to No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, staying on the top for 4 weeks in December of ’91.

Shanice performed the song as the first musical guest on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ on May 25, 1992. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award in ’92 for ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.’ The record features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis, while Janet Jackson and René Elizondo, Jr. can be heard laughing at the end of the song.

In the music video, Shanice is in a studio having several pictures taken by a photographer. One scene shows her in a leather jacket, another has her sitting in a chair in front of a microphone stand, and another has her dancing with several backup dancers. Shanice is known for her five-octave vocal range and her ability to sing in the whistle register. SMILE and check out this classic video above!
