The numbers are in. Mariah Carey released her 14th studio album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse last week following a rocky campaign, and the diva has now debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
According to Nielsen Soundscan, Mimi’s set, which has received strong reviews, and in our opinion is a great body of work, sold 58,500 copies in it’s first week on the charts. Falling just behind country singer Brantley Gilbert and Coldplay, who remain in the top spot for the second straight week.
Following her 2013 hit single “#Beautiful” Mariah sustained an injury while shooting a remix video and was forced to push the album back numerous times, which resulted in various under-performing singles that she has yet to recover from. The late 2013 ballad “The Art of Letting Go” came and went fast, and her Valentine’s Day release “You’re Mine (Eternal)” never got the legs it needed to chart.
Although a slow start for Mariah, the album has plenty of strong and potentially hit singles, which if worked properly could keep her climbing throughout the year.
Let’s hope she can “Shake it Off.”
