Toronto born artist/songwriter August Rigo is paying homage to his musical upbringing with the release of his brand new EP ‘Summer of ‘95.’
“This was the time that really nurtured me musically. It shaped how I think, write, produce, and was basically my first experience with actually falling in love with songs,” says August. “No politics, no charts, just CDs and playlists and singing at the top of my lungs. I put together this project for a couple reasons: one, to merge some classic R&B with contemporary production; but also, to re-introduce myself.”
If you are unfamiliar with the name Rigo has written hits for huge pop acts like Justin Bieber and One Direction and he served as executive producer of Musiq Soulchild’s Musiqinthemagic album. ‘Summer of ’95’ brings him back to the spotlight as an artist with an ode to classic R&B songs. “It’s a little something for you to get to know me better. I decided to go back to what I love and the road led me to this. It’s the music that I grew up on, that I always go back to, so I wanted to share it with everyone in my own way.”
Enlisting the likes of Ricky Tillo, Anthony Wright, Fergus Chow and Ginette Claudette to lend their talents to a few of the songs, ‘Summer of ‘95’ is a foray into who August Rigo is, and where he is venturing musically.

He has a beautiful voice… but I was hoping he would have some original material instead of sampling past hits
