In what now seems like perfectly timed planning, John Legend put on a memorable concert on Wednesday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Backed by the LA Philharmonic and the Dap Kings, the singer/songwriter/producer paid homage to the legendary Marvin Gaye performing his iconic, civil rights based album What’s Going On, in it’s entirety!

Wearing a white suit and “Don’t Shoot” t-shirt, in honor of Michael Brown and the situation in Ferguson, MO, the R&B crooner delivered a riveting performance of the American classic.

“‘What’s Going On’ was an artistic masterpiece,” Legend told Yahoo!. “It was beautifully performed and arranged by Marvin and his collaborators. It had a strong sense of cohesion and clarity in its vision. And it was such a bold choice for an artist known primarily for his sweet love songs to make such provocative album with such a strong political message. But what made it so great was that it didn’t come off too preachy. He was able to make this “message” record that was still sensual and beautiful. It was still love music.”

In collaboration with Livenation and Yahoo! Music, fans around the world were able to stream the concert live last night. If you missed it, you can catch the full show now below!
